The Madeline Dress

After opening all my amazing gifts on Christmas morning, I did what any any sane person would do. I bought myself a dress from Dear Creatures to treat myself to a year well done!

I had been eying this dress all fall and finally made it mine! This is the wonderful Madeline dress. Super comfortable, super swing, super adorable. If I had my druthers I would wear Dear Creatures every day!

Tea With Gladys Boutique!

WELL! Remember I said in my last post that I had some life altering news that was so huge it needed its own post? Here it is! ( and you will soon find out why I have been so absent as of late)

I AM OPENING MY VERY OWN BOUTIQUE/CHILDREN'S ART STUDIO.

If you were to ask me 5 years ago what my dream job would be, it would be one of these three things:

1) to be a children's book illustrator ( totally still attainable)
2) to be a voice actor...primarily doing recordings for the self-serve machines of a grocery store. "please  remove your bags and thanks for shopping at...________"
3) to own a vinatge shop, but also incorporating other retail, and children somehow, and art, and cuteness.

After I received news that the current children's art studio I work at was closing b/c the owners are relocating out of the country, things just began to fall into place.

Tea With Gladys has been a vintage online store I have managed since 2006 ( first on ebay and now on Etsy), and I always knew I wanted to take it to another level. For those that don't know the story, TWG is named after my late grandmother Gladys, whom was always ready to tell stories from the past, usually shared over a cup of tea.

Now in 2013, I am opening up an actual storefront in downtown Oakville. It is an artisan's boutique ( lots of amazing handmade items from local artists, illustrators and designers) a vintage boutique, a children's art studio ( will be teaching and hosting workshops for young girls) and I will also be offering bithday "TEA" parties. Guests will get to create one of five projects, chit chat over cupakes and 'tea' ( pink lemonade) and leave with adorable loot and pictures from a photobooth I have set up in the studio.

It's been EXTREMELY busy as I have been setting up, buying , painting painting and more painting. I've added some sneak peek pics of the progress thus far. I've been doing a lot of thrifting for display tables/ ect. and have found some amazing items! So stay tuned to all my entreprenurial endeavors and check us out on FACEBOOK:)

upcycling an old cabinet for display!

The store's pet Sassy.

Super excited about the wallpaper I ordered by Amy Butler

Let's Start the Year Off RED!

Happy 2013 to everyone that stops by and peruses the li'lustrations of darcy! I just got back from a glorious holiday season spent with my family in NB. It was so good to see everyone and spend quality time with those that I love most. I left the airport as a weepy traveller as I have no clue when I will get to see my family again:(

I have some major big news that many of my friends/aquaintances know already, however I am going to make a separate and very detailed post about this later on in the week. It is such life altering news that it needs its own dedicated post. And just to be clear--- no I am not getting married and no I am not having a baby.

For today, an outfit post featuring a dress I bought prior to the holidays from Modcloth. I took these photos after my hometown got three major storms in the span of a week and a half. There is literally 50cm of snow on the ground... These were taken right after Christmas so I was still feeling super festive, hence the overload of red. I love the color, what can I say? This is the All Eyes on Unique Dress in Fire Hydrant yes, those ARE little fire hydrants on my dress.

This dress is so comfty and so wondefully patterned I really can't say enough about it. It will make a beautiful transition into the warmer months, yet I can get by pairing it with tights and boots in the winter months. I purchased these red Hunter boots last year and let me tell you...if you live in Canada and have to put up with Canadian winters GET THESE. Your feet will be forever dry.
